DMREF: Collaborative Research Chemoresponsive Liquid Crystals Based on Metal Ion-Ligand Coordination

Our project aims to synthesize novel, highly sensitive chemical sensors based on chemoresponsive liquid crystals. First-principles electronic structure calculations are used to model interactions between liquid crystals, metal cations, and target molecules. Promising candidates are synthesized and characterized experimentally to determine their viability in sensor applications. Our approach to materials design, integrating computation, synthesis, and experimental analysis at all stages of the process, accelerates discovery and efficiently identifies the most promising candidate systems.
