Glasses are remarkable materials that exhibit solid-like strength, while having liquid-like uniformity. The team seeks to create a knowledge base and develop principles for the engineering of organic glasses with designer properties, including high stability, mechanical strength, and controlled molecular ordering on the nanometer scale. The new ability to design glasses will enable long-lasting organic electronics with superior energy efficiency, novel optical materials, and effective formulations for long-term storage of pharmaceuticals and vaccines, and for drug delivery.
